For the Plugged In concert on January 13 & 15, 2012 entitled “BELIEVE,” students chose to raise money for the Dup15q Alliance, which provides family support and promotes awareness, research and targeted treatments for chromosome 15q duplication syndrome.

Plugged In Goes to Washington DC!

Recently Plugged In was presented with the opportunity to enter the 2nd Annual, If I Had A Trillion Dollars Film Festival (IHTD). IHTD is a youth film festival presented by the American Friends Service Committee and the National Priorities Project. Ultimately, the goal of the film festival is to engage youth from all over the United States in discussions about their local, state and federal governments. IHTD presents a forum for youth to think critically and express their opinions on a subject that they are rarely asked about.

This year’s participants were encouraged to take a closer look at where the United States is spending it’s money. With a focus on our government’s budget priorities, the youth were asked to create a short film that expresses what they would do if they could redirect government funds away from things like war and towards projects that would help their own communities. Specifically, participants were asked, “If you had a trillion dollars what would you do? What would you do if you had the power?”

After three amazing workshops with some incredibly talented Plugged In students our submission was complete. An original composition, written and performed by Plugged In students, called “Hand It Down” was submitted.

We are so very proud to announce that the “Hand It Down” video has been picked as one of the official IHTD Film Festival winners!

All of the youth involved in the creation of the video are invited for a 3 day IHTD event in Washington, DC that includes a special event presentation at Busboys and Poets, an IHTD workshop and a screening of the winning videos for members of Congress! We will have more details for you in the upcoming weeks so keep your eyes peeled for more information at www.pluggedinband.org and in your email.

Spring Registration is Right Around the Corner!

Spring session registration is on Saturday, January 28 from 3:00-6:00 PM @ 214 Garden St. in Needham. Spring session classes begin the week of March 5. Band classes meet once per week for 1 1/2 hours. Registration forms will be accepted until February 17

The students chose to donate the money to the Elias Fund, a non-profit organization empowering local Zimbabwean communities through strategic partnership and resource allocation, providing hope and opportunity to Zimbabwe through the development of a vibrant social sector.
